Online Guides

Fasila benefits from inheriting more than a decade of materials produced by Small World News. We continue to revise these materials and develop new ones in order to provide an evolving catalog of guides and curriculum to meet the every changing needs of our trainees. All of our materials are released under a Creative Commons license and are freely available to anyone to revise, repurpose, and share.

Workshops

Good workshops are relevant to the community from which the participants come and address the real world challenges faced by participants. To make this happen, we believe a good training must be based on Targeted Practiced Learning.

In a workshop environment designed to teach adult learners material must be presented in a more dynamic way. An effective model for learning in this environment requires that participants be engaged in their own learning and encouraged to think for themselves. This is accomplished through robust debate, hands-on exercises and directly addressing barriers to learning such as an environment that discourage debate. This is ‘targeted practice learning.

WE TRAIN STORYTELLERS

Our trainers are equipped to deliver workshops in a wide variety of topics, including but not limited to: storytelling, video production, photography, visual storytelling, audio production, event reporting, social media, strategic planning, and creating advocacy campaigns. We are prepared to provide remote mentoring and distance learning approaches. Don’t let your location be a barrier to learning.

A good trainer does far more than merely teach a skill. A good trainer has practical experience and real-world wisdom. A good trainer inspires and empowers. A really good trainer is more than just an instructor, a good trainer is a mentor.

Mentoring

Individual mentoring is more labor intensive than running a workshop, but we believe it is also more likely to succeed at creating lasting change. Individual mentoring provides each participant with direct feedback related to their specific needs. Individual mentoring can be done remotely and may take the form of WhatsApp chats, audio or video calls, and emails supported by concrete tips and guidance for the participant to improve their skills. Mentoring individuals or small groups can also be done onsite, as needed.
